Seventeen St. Augustine restaurants and bars on this page have closed, and most of them are still being recommended somewhere. We found them while building this site, because you cannot publish a city guide without checking whether the places in it are open.
This matters more here than in most cities. A lot of people plan a St. Augustine trip weeks ahead, around a specific table, from a list somebody wrote three years ago. Finding a dark window on Anastasia Boulevard when you have driven four hours is a particular kind of disappointment, and it is almost always because nobody updated a page.
The long-running ones
Gypsy Cab Co., 828 Anastasia Blvd, closed on 5 June 2025 after 42 years. It was the one everybody named when asked what to eat here. Purple Olive relocated into the building and reopened there on 24 October 2025, so the room is still feeding people.
A1A Ale Works, 1 King St on the bayfront, closed permanently on 26 May 2024 after 29 years, with an expiring lease behind it. Its old web address now serves a Russian bot-challenge page on a self-signed certificate, which is not a place you want to end up.
Creekside Dinery closed on 26 September 2020, also after 29 years, when the property sold. The building became St. Augustine Fish House & Oyster Co. and is The BoatHouse today.
Santa Maria, the restaurant built out over Matanzas Bay at 135 Avenida Menendez where you could feed the fish through a hatch in the floor, closed after the 2015 sale and has not reopened.
On the water
Hurricane Patty's at Oyster Creek Marina served its final day on 23 November 2025 when the marina property sold. Its own domain now redirects to a Pusser's page that states plainly that Hurricane Patty's is no longer open, which is more honesty than most closed restaurants manage.
South Beach Grill at Crescent Beach is permanently closed. St. Johns County bought 45 Cubbedge Rd for two million dollars in June 2022 and the site is now a beach walkover and parking for Crescent Beach Park. Crescent Beach Bar & Grill is gone too.
Old Town and Lincolnville
Preserved, in the Jefferson House at 102 Bridge St, served its last dinner on 17 June 2023. The building is La Nouvelle now.
Present Moment Cafe, 224 W King St, the raw vegan kitchen that anchored every plant-based list for this city, is permanently closed. Buena Onda Cafe has the space and the phone number.
La Herencia Cafe on Aviles Street and Hot Shot Bakery & Cafe on Cordova Street have both closed. Dos Gatos at 66 Hypolita is gone; the tourism board's page for it now shows a different bar at that address.
Anastasia Boulevard
Gas Full Service Restaurant at 9 Anastasia Blvd closed, and Bea's Fine Foods + All Day Cafe, which took the same building as The Floridian's little sister, has closed as well. Both are still on lists.
Back 40 Urban Cafe on S Dixie Hwy is permanently closed, which matters because vegan roundups for this city still send people there.
Elsewhere
Ancient City Brewing closed both its brewery on Agricultural Center Drive and its Cathedral Place taproom in February 2025. The taproom space became Kookaburra.
Rype & Readi is closed across the board: the golf bistro, the downtown market and the farm market.
Moved, not closed
The Floridian is open. Its last day at 72 Spanish St was 28 July 2025 and it reopened in a new building at 485 Old Beach Rd on the Anastasia side. At least one dining guide still prints the Spanish Street address, which will walk you to the wrong door in the middle of Old Town.
Kingfish Grill is also open, but no longer on the water. Its last day at Camachee Cove was 11 May 2025, the building was permitted for demolition, and it reopened inland in Cobblestone Village off State Road 312. If you booked it for the view, book something else.
Cellar 6 left 6 Aviles St downtown; a Cellar 6 Kitchen & Rooftop Bar now appears on Anastasia Boulevard.
Where the good ones went
Four of these buildings are still worth walking into. Creekside became The BoatHouse, Preserved became La Nouvelle, Present Moment became Buena Onda Cafe, and Gypsy Cab's room is Purple Olive. In a town this old, a closure is usually a change of name rather than the loss of a room.
What is not on this page
Several venues here look closed and are deliberately absent, because the only evidence was a Yelp banner or a domain that stopped resolving. That is not our standard. They are not listed as open either. The Conch House is the clearest example: its site timed out every time we tried it, and a timeout is not a closure.
